It is necessary to explore the scale of urban planning with the subject matter of architecture, which does not stop at building designs. The urban space must be a pre-existence with respect to building projects, which shall successively interpret and carry it out. Knowledge and means at our disposal must also be determined in terms of physical planning as to define, establish, and/or issue standards for an urban space. In this paper we develop an approach to the relation between the town concept and its physical expression, and the form characteristics that will be established in urban plans. This is the subject of URBAN FORM DEFINITION IN URBAN PLANNING (Luz Valente-Pereira, 28 páginas, R$ 20,00). The author has a degree in architecture from the Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa, pos-graduate degree in Regional Planning and Development by the Institut de Recherche et Formation en Vue du Développement Harmonisé de Paris and is a retired senior researcher of Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil.
